History

As a firehouse-themed cafe, it shouldn’t be unexpected that the Firehouse Subs is made and confirmed by actual firemen. Brothers Chris and Robin Sorensen launched the chain in 1997. They arrived from a line of firemen and authority officers, so, for them, it was handled like they were told to make something along the strings of Firehouse Subs.

The first Firehouse Subs site was extended in Jacksonville, Florida, where the business is headquartered today. They started franchising their company within a year, but the creators immediately drew back on the picture. They chose to buy the franchised sites back and use company-owned accounts only.

In 2000, they again examined the idea of franchising with consultants’ help. They set up the financing for possible franchisees, and the label grew exponentially. From 10 stores, they could open an extra 40 stores by 2002. The following year, the digit folded to 100. In 2011, they started growing overseas.

The group calls their development a ‘controlled burn.’ It’s not too fast, but it’s also pretty slow. The speed is just good so that they can keep a good portion of control over their trademark.
